Salt-glazed Stoneware Löwenbrau Muenchen BEER MUG 0.5L SOLD!
This collectible GERMAN BEER MUG is a 0.5L salt-glazed stoneware beer mug, made in Germany, with the logos Löwenbrau Muenchen, Hotel Schneefernerhaus 2650m. ü.d.M. and Bayr. Zugspitzbahn2966m. ü.d.M. The hotel, open from the 1930s to the 1990s, location is at 2650m. up the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze. Shortly after WW II the U.S. military took over the Hotel Schneefernerhaus for the total use of US military and civilian employees. Today it is an environmental research station operated by the German Weather Service.
This beer mug is in very good condition. Notable examples of authenticity are the raise-edged logos,the unique surface indicative of salt glaze, and the hand attached handle with finger smooth marks, and the hole at the top placed their before firing to keep the handle from breaking off. Visible cracks that are in the handle were there after the intial firing, then glazed over as you can tell my feeling them. They are smooth and beneath that glaze. There are naturally occurring flaws from the firing and glazing process, please see photos for examples. We have 1 other beer mug for auction at this time.
This is a beautiful example of the blue-grey stoneware of German, and a wonderful addition to any collection. Stoneware Löwenbrau Muenchen 1Litre BEER MUG
This collectible GERMAN BEER MUG is a 1 Litre glazed stoneware beer mug, made in Germany, with the logo Löwenbrau Muenchen. This beer mug is in good to very good condition, showing some marking and stains both below and above the glaze. There is a chip on the bottom edge of the mug, bottom is rough and shows some staining. Handle shows the traditional hole at the top made before firing to ensure it did not break off during the firing process. Additionally there is a naturally occurring flaw in the handle set during that process as well. The mug has been thoroughly cleansed with a gentle agent. We have 1 other for auction at this time.
